In Bashkiria, doctors were paid 12 million rubles for early diagnosis of cancer.

Acting Head of Bashkortostan Radiy Khabirov presented doctors with certificates to receive a one-time cash payment for the early detection of cancer. The corresponding decree was signed by him in May of this year, and the program began to operate in July.

For one-time cash payments in the amount of 5 thousand rubles. Certain categories of outpatient medical workers in medical institutions subordinate to the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus may apply for each newly diagnosed case of a malignant neoplasm at stages I and II. The diagnosis must be confirmed by an oncologist.

In total, the budget provides 30 million rubles for these purposes, of which 12 million have already been paid. Radiy Khabirov announced his readiness to increase expenses on this item if necessary.

“Treating a cancer patient is more expensive than identifying the disease at the initial stage,” the head of Bashkiria emphasized and thanked the doctors for their work.

Similar incentive payments have been adopted in some other regions. In particular, in the Kirov region in July of this year, the Ministry of Health proposed replicating this initiative, albeit by adjusting the amount. Pay bonuses of 1 thousand rubles. proposed from January 1, 2020. This will cost the budget 1.2 billion rubles. annually.

This idea also has opponents. First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Education and Science, Honored Doctor, Doctor of Medical Sciences. Gennady Onishchenko called it vicious and outdated: “This kind of experimentation on people is unacceptable. This can lead to a pursuit of oncological diagnoses and will make the doctor biased, since on a subconscious level he will be interested in receiving additional money.”
