The revenue of Russian clinics from the export of medical services for seven months of 2023 amounted to $437.7 million. Of this, more than half of the funds ($271.9 million) remained in organizations of the Central Federal District (CFD). More than 4.44 million people received medical care there, the head of the communication projects department of the Department of International Cooperation and Public Relations of the Ministry of Health said on December 5 Igor Shiryaev on IV Nationalohm Congress for the Export of Medical Services, reports the MV correspondent.

In total, 2.15 million people were treated there during this period. The most popular medical care profiles: preventive examinationresearch (check-up), neurology, oncology, radiology and radiotherapy, obstetrics and gynecology, and pediatric cardiology.

According to a representative of the National Medical Research Center of Oncology. N.N. Blokhin, in 2023, 3,020 patients have already received help at the center (4,080 people in 2022). V MNTK im. S.N. In 2022, the income of Russian clinics from the export of medical services reached $729.94 million – this is 30% higher than the planned value and 92% higher than the result for 2021 ($378 million), follows from the report of the Ministry of Health. In total, 12 million people with foreign citizenship were treated in medical institutions. For comparison: in 2021, the coordinating center for the implementation of the project reported on 7 million citizens.

According to the director of the Institute of Health Economics of the National Research University Higher School of Economics Larisa Popovich, Last year’s statistics on the export of medical services could include citizens of new regions of Russia. The number of refugees who arrived in Russia from the territory of Ukraine and Donbass in 2022 was estimated at 5.3 million people, including 738 thousand children.

The federal project “Development of Export of Medical Services” sets a goal of earning $1 billion by 2024, which is four times more than in 2017 ($250 million). However, the COVID-19 pandemic made adjustments to the department’s plans: due to closed borders and restrictions on movement, the income of Russian medical organizations from foreign patients decreased in 2020 from $223 million to $197 million. The Ministry of Economic Development predicted that it would take at least three years for the market to recover .

In addition to external problems, in 2022, legislators in Russia limited some types of medical care for foreigners: for example, they are no longer entitled to take advantage of the surrogacy program in the country (MB talked about this here).
