The reduction of mid-level health workers has begun in Russia » Medvestnik

In 2022, there are more doctors in Russia, but fewer nursing staff, according to Rosstat data. The number of specialists increased by 2.2 thousand people, and the number of mid-level workers decreased by 28 thousand, MV noted.

From 2018 to 2020, the number of nursing staff in the country did not change and was about 1.5 million, but in 2021 the reduction began. At the same time, over the past five years (2018–2022), the number of doctors has increased by an average of 6%, or by 40 thousand people.

An increase in the number of doctors was recorded in 36 regions. The maximum increase was observed in the Tyumen region – by 6.2% (9.4 thousand people) compared to 2021. The Moscow region is also not far behind in terms of dynamics; the number of doctors here has increased by 5.2% (37.9 thousand people). The TOP5 regions with the maximum increase in the number of doctors also included the Republic of Tyva (+4%), the Chechen Republic (3.5%) and the Krasnodar Territory (3.3%).

In 49 regions there are fewer doctors than there were in 2021. The Kaluga region is the leader among them – here the number of specialists decreased by 4.5%. Negative dynamics were also recorded in Kalmykia, Karelia, Yaroslavl and Magadan regions. On average, the number of doctors in these regions decreased by 3 to 4%.

According to Rosstat, the number of medical personnel with the highest and first qualification categories is falling every year. From 2018 to 2022, the number of doctors in such categories decreased by almost 6%, and among nursing staff the figure decreased by 12%. Since 2021, the number of doctors of the highest and first categories has decreased by 0.6%, and mid-level workers by 3%.
