Spinal surgeries were performed in Kurgan using a unique foreign technique

The Ilizarov Center performed 4 spinal surgeries using a unique foreign technique. The author of know-how in the treatment of spinal stenosis is the President of the International Association of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery Greg Anderson (USA, Philadelphia).

The essence of the innovative technique is to expand the spinal canal and lengthen the vertebral pedicle using the latest distraction system, reports the press service of the Ilizarov Center. As a result, pressure on the nerve is reduced and severe pain is eliminated (the main problem of patients with stenosis).

A similar operation is also indicated for older people with spinal osteochondrosis, which is accompanied by acute pain. After the operation, patients return to their normal lives on the second day and recover quickly. This was stated by the Deputy Director for Development of the National Medical Research Center of Traumatology and Orthopedics named after. N.N. Priorova Sergey Bushnevwho participated in innovative operations in Kurgan.

“This is the first joint project of two largest federal institutes of traumatology and orthopedics: the Ilizarov Center and CITO. In addition, this is a colossal experience in integrating world science into domestic medicine. The innovative technique can radically change the standard of treatment for patients with spinal stenosis in Russia and in the world,” the director of the Ilizarov Center is convinced Alexander Gubin.

On the basis of the National Medical Research Center of Traumatology and Orthopedics named after. N.N. Priorov, the first three operations were performed using Greg Anderson’s technique. Clinical trials of a two-year study by an American spinal surgeon will also be held at the Krasnodar Regional Hospital No. 1 named after. S.V. Ochapovsky and at the Nizhny Novgorod Research Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics.
