WHO head calls for wearing masks again due to rising COVID-19 cases » Medvestnik

The head of WHO called for the resumption of wearing masks. According to him, in many countries there is an increase in the number of cases of COVID-19 and the trend will continue after the New Year holidays.

Head of the World Health Organization (WHO) called for the resumption of wearing masks and continued vaccination against COVID-19 – he announced this on his page on X (formerly Twitter). According to him, “the number of respiratory diseases caused by coronavirus, influenza and other pathogens has been increasing in many countries for several weeks.” Also, the head of WHO said, “This is expected to continue after the recent holidays.”

Ghebreyesus also called on the population to make sure “that you and your loved ones are vaccinated against COVID-19 and influenza,” and he recommended that state leaders ensure access to tests and vaccines, as well as monitor possible mutations of the virus.

The global health emergency for COVID-19 was in effect from the end of January 2020 to May 2023. After its cancellation, Russia stopped publishing daily statistics on morbidity. At the same time, in November the head of Rospotrebnadzor reported about the new wave of COVID-19 cases that has begun in the country.

At the end of December 2023, the Ministry of Health extended the temporary “Covid” operating procedure for medical institutions until 2024. The order provides, in particular, for mandatory testing for coronavirus before hospitalization, regulates routing schemes for patients with ARVI and community-acquired pneumonia, and the procedure for providing primary medical care to people suspected of COVID-19 at home. The Ministry of Health explained the need to extend the temporary rules by the increase in COVID-19 cases in recent weeks.
